It\'s probably one of these big poodles (king-size poodles) that is basically greyish-black with white hair in-between, so that the fur has a blueish tinge.

agree  DGK T-I: agree probably technical name for colour of that breed, not literally blue - funny how specialist names of domestic animal colours are chosen to be confusing eg: 'grey' horses are often white, etc.- unless this is a cont.of"magical"theme ¬ a normal dog!

-> Thanks, but I've never heard of the blue poodle species, though some of the greyish do look blue indeed.

agree  David Moore (X): Just as Edith says, it is the colour. But the breed is a "Standard poodle" (the large one, that is). Miniature and Toy are the smaller breeds, and the standards all call for solid colours. See http://www.napoleon.org.uk/breed/toypoodle.htm

-> Thanks, I know nothing about poodles except that some neighbours have such a big poodle fellow, and he just has blueish-looking fur.

agree  Sarah Ponting: Probably, although sometimes little old ladies tint their poodle's fur pink or pale blue (perhaps to match their own rinsed hair)

-> Thanks Sarah, that also occured to me, the blue hair rinse.

Locus B is BB or Bb, locus D is dd.

Explanation:
It's basically a black dog, but with homozygous d (recessive colour dilution allele) in locus D.
