I think the important point is that the person is not self-employed. Also, lucrative in the US means that it pays a lot of money (as B D Finch pointed out for the UK).

Explanation:
Ha! - been there, done that... :(

You can read the law here: http://www.admin.ch/ch/f/rs/c642_118_1.html

Unfortunately, unlike a lot of Swiss law, it's not available in English on the admin.ch website.

neutral  B D Finch: "Lucrative" in UK English would mean that the activity brought in not just some money, but lots of it.

neutral  B D Finch: Unfortunately, the only source for the expression you suggest is the Vaud one. Not a generally used expression in English, as "dependent" tends to be used in relation to family members, rather than employee status.

agree  cc in nyc: http://www.admin.ch/ch/f/rs/642_118_1/a1.html // I'm pretty sure it's "activité [...] dépendante," but I found the reference in 1.2 to "l’employeur" and "un tiers" more telling.

-> Thanks cc. Interesting link: it almost looks like it should be "dépendentes" to agree with "personnes".
