German term

Rosinenfrau

German to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
Is anyone familiar with this as the name of a sort of pastry or sweet bread? There's not much specific context, but it occurs in a 1921 Swiss German story about a Christmas visit. Other pastries are mentioned earlier, and at the end the author writes "Zwei 'Rosinenfrauen' wurden noch aus dem Weihnachtszimmer gebracht und sollten mit auf den Heimweg gehen." I assume it's a sort of raisin bread/pastry, but can't find a specific term for it.

The recipe provided on foodonbytes is definitely something else as Dambedeis, Rosinenfrauen.... are made from yeast dough.

Wer ist die Autorin bzw. der Autor? Wie lautet der Titel der Geschichte?
RegineMac Jun 24, 2011:
I immediately thought of the "Stutenkerl", but am not sure whether that's the same. It's not listed as one of the other names that it's known by.

check out: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stutenkerl

Dough woman/dough girl in analogy to dough man/dough boy, see http://www.stnicholascenter.org/pages/breads/ orhttp://www.germandeli.com/stw.html . Another possibility would maybe be "dough doll".

I do realise that this is a slightly different product but it at least evokes Christmas and is a female. The ones I am thinking of are decorated with raisins - or rather currants (in U.K.) because they are smaller, rounder and darker.

If we were to say "currant woman", I'm not sure readers would recognise it to be a type of biscuit/cookie.
