French term

on en rapproche

French to English Medical Medical (general)
My phrase: "En ophtalmologie, on en rapproche l’antibioprophylaxie de surface qui limite la charge bactérienne, y compris en postopératoire tant que les incisions ne sont pas étanches." Googling reveals many instances of "on en rapproche" in similar medical contexts but I can't figure out what is meant.

Discussion

STEVEN DEWITT (asker) May 18, 2011:
More context "Objectif de l’antibioprophylaxie
L’antibioprophylaxie a pour but de prévenir l’infection post-opératoire, en faisant en sorte qu’un antibiotique adapté aux micro-organismes responsables d’endophtalmies se trouve à concentration efficace dans le foyer opératoire, afin d’éliminer les bactéries qui auraient pu y pénétrer. En ophtalmologie, on en rapproche l’antibioprophylaxie de surface qui limite la charge bactérienne, y compris en postopératoire tant que les incisions ne sont pas étanches."

more context needed for a sensible answer This can mean many things - it's one of those fairly meaningless fillers - this includes, this is contrasted with, etc. The sentence before and after would be helpful.

It (antibiotic prophylaxis) has a similar use in ophthalmology (topical form), which limits...

Hello,

Read it like this:

on rapproche l’antibioprophylaxie de surface en ophthamologie de celle déjà mentionnée = one sees similarities between antibiotic prophylaxis and topical antibiotic prophylaxis (their uses)

en = the antibiotic prophylaxis in the previous sentence (as described)

I wouldn't translate "on" by "one" here, but but another construction like "there is", etc.

I hope this helps.
