B.Eng Explanation: As noted in discussion and in ref. below, "dottore" does not mean a doctorate in this case. The nearest equivalent is B.Eng. (Bachelor of Engineering) from the Europe-wide equivalence of degree programme Following the introduction of the Bologna process, universities divide higher-education studies in three cycles, corresponding to a 3-year bachelor's degree, a 2-year master's degree, and a doctoral degree. In Italy until 2001 there was two degree: 3 years long "diploma in ingegneria" (BEng level, title abbrev. "dipl. ing.") and 5 years long "laurea in ingegneria" (MEng level, title abbrev. "ing."). Since 2001 reform, the bachelor level is called "laurea" (abbrev. "L") and master degree level is called "laurea specialistica" or "laurea magistrale" (abbrev. "LS"). Accordingly, today after 3 years of engineering studies can be obtained the degree called "laurea in ingegneria" (BEng level) and the title of "dottore in Ingegneria" (abbrev. "dott."). After five years of engineering studies can be obtained the degree called "laurea magistrale in ingegneria" (MEng level) and the title of "dottore magistrale in Ingegneria" (abbrev. "dott."). After a "state exam" you become "Ingegnere" (abbrv. Ing)[3] ... today after 3 years of engineering studies can be obtained the degree called "laurea in ingegneria" (BEng level) and the ... The Bachelor of Engineering (commonly abbreviated as BE or BEng) is an undergraduate academic degree awarded to a student after three to five years of studying engineering at universities in Armenia, Australia, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Jordan, Korea, Lebanon, Macedonia, Malaysia, Nepal, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States, Vietnam, Zambia and Zimbabwe.[citation needed] The nature of the qualification varies around the world, hence it may or may not be a professional degree and it may or may not involve undertaking some engineering work. The course may or may not be accredited by a national professional society. Some institutions award a Bachelor of Science (BSc Eng) Engineering, Bachelor of Engineering Science (BESc), Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE), or Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree to undergraduate students of engineering study. For example, Canada is the only country that awards the BASc degree for graduating engineers. The original question was about "dottore" which means he's a graduate (see ref above), so I suggested B. Eng. or, later, B. Sc. i.e. nothing to do with "professional/experienced". Equivalence/equal validity is very tricky issue in degrees. |
