Antriebsstrang / Skaleneffekte

Non-PRO German to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks
Von dem Joint-Venture mit Caterpillar in den Bereichen mittelschwere Motoren sowie Antriebsstrangkomponenten sind positive Skaleneffekte zu erwarten.

1)Is Antriebsstrangkomponenten drive gear components?
2)Skaleneffekte refers to sales graphs I suppose.

Thanks for your time.
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (1): Steffen Walter

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Antriebsstrngkomponente=

Antrieb= drive/driving

I have got several translations for 'strang', and you may know best which is most fitting:Strang
(ketten-, Seil-)=strand
(Seil-)=fall
(Rohr-)= run
(schienen-)=track

komponent= component.

'Skaleneffekte'hasn't got anything to do with sales graphes.

I would translate it as 'graduation effect' or 'scaling effect'.

Antriebsstrang... drive-train (ie gear-box, prop-shaft, differential).

Skaleneffekte, yes literally effects of scale, but English business jargon talks more naturally about the "advantages of scale", so I would go for that. Lots of time in business.

Antriebsstrang translation comes from experience of taking motor cars to pieces, and byuing components for them.

drive train components and advantages of scale

I agree with the last answer - they are referring to advantages that come with an "economy of scale", which is the decrease in the cost of manufacturing one unit of product due to an increase in quantity produced/mass production.

I suppose also they're talking about mid-size engines.

STUTTGART, Germany -- DaimlerChrysler AG and Caterpillar Inc. are forming an alliance to develop and make engines and fuel systems for commercial trucks in a move to reduce costs amid slowing U.S. truck sales.
DaimlerChrysler, the world's largest maker of heavy trucks, and Caterpillar, the No. 1 construction-equipment maker, said they signed an agreement Tuesday to combine the purchasing, manufacture and research for mid-size engines used in busses, delivery trucks and power generation.
