I've encountered riñon límite and donante límite in the literature, but am still unclear on what they mean. Seems to be related to expanded donor criteria but not sure.
Thanks for any assistance.

marginal/EDC kidney
Riñón límite refers to kidneys that are not ideal but feasible, due to donors being older, having heart disease, etc.

There aren't enough ideal kidneys and waiting lists are getting longer. One way around this is to extend the criteria used to define a feasible kidney. This is known as expanded donor criteria (as you mentioned). The result is that more kidneys are made available, but they are labelled as "marginal" kidneys to distinguish from the ideal ones.
A significant number of early failures was recorded in patients
receiving a ***marginal kidney*** compared to controls receiving
an optimal kidney

Actually, ECD seems to be more common than EDC, but in any case, as a translation of "límite" I would go for "marginal".
