Dutch term

vruchten en beplantingen

Dutch to English Law/Patents Law: Contract(s) property-related
Voor het geval zij toch worden weggenomen, geeft de Onderzetter hierbij onherroepelijk volmacht aan xxx Bank om de weggenomen zaken evenals te velde staande vruchten of beplantingen aan xxx Bank in pand te geven.
Technically, fruit and plant/planting, but this sounds a bit odd in English. I wonder if there is a standard phrase used for translation (e.g. grounds?, flora?)

fruit possibly singular
Peer comment(s):

neutral Jack den Haan : 'Beplantingen' could also include trees, EHL. This translation doesn't...

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "This is the suggestion I went with, although I kept fruit in the singular! Thanks to EHL and all others for their input."

fruit(s) and planted materials

This is a fairly close translation and would cover trees as well. I think I'd leave out the plural of 'fruit'.
Peer comment(s):

neutral EHL : I agree with fruit probably better left singular

How about the 'planted materials' bit. IMHO, it's the only suggestion up to now that covers trees...
neutral Erik Boers : I don't think it's about "fruit", but "vruchten te velde" (= veldvruchten) (archaic use of the word "vruchten", not uncommon in legal texts).

You could be right Erik, but to my mind the close link to 'beplantingen' suggests otherwise.

fruits, vegetables and crops

I think that should cover it.

On second thoughts "vruchten" probably is short for "veldvruchten" (crops), so how about "crops and plantations"?

agree Lianne van de Ven : crops is it!

neutral Jack den Haan : Hmm.. what about trees? // IMHO definitely not a plantation, Erik. That could be whole "estate" or property in itself.

You may have a point there. See added note.//Plantation does not always mean "plantage". Just see Van Dale E-Nl and/or google "crops and plantations".
agree Kate Hudson (X) : How about just crops and plants (fruits and vegetables are crops) and plants covers trees etc
4 hrs
In Dutch "plants" (planten) usually means smaller plants, excluding trees.
agree Tina Vonhof (X) : I would just say 'fruits and crops' since vegetables are also a type of crop.

agree sindy cremer : crops, plants and trees; definitely not fruit(s)

crops and plants

IMO the term 'vruchten' should not be taken literally, hence a separate answer...

Begin maart 1862 start Peter Jeurissen met de verkoop van een stuk land en al zijn huisraad en meubelen. Ook worden te velde staande vruchten verkocht zoals tarwe, klaver en koren. Er wordt geen huis verkocht! De opbrengst van deze verkopen bedraagt 510 gulden.

neutral Jack den Haan : 'Beplantingen' could also include trees, Sindy. This translation doesn't...//What about your 1st ref. then: reeds gemaaide, gerooide of geplukte vruchten (graan, knolvruchten, aardappelen, *fruit*) ;-)

Crops plants and trees then, but most certainly not fruit or fruits!//Surely you're not serious, Jack?
neutral Erik Boers : Vruchten are indeed crops (see my note). Plants has already been suggested by Kate (see my comment).

Mea culpa, didn't see your note...
