English term

Cdr. TS

English to Russian Other Ships, Sailing, Maritime
The phrase is : "Compiled from hydrographic survey of 2007, surveyed by Cdr. TS Vasudevan, INS XXX". What do the "TS" letters after the rank (commander) stand for? Couldn't find any explanations on Navy sites - they just use all these
Admiral (O10) TS: ADM
Vice Admiral (O9) TS: VADM
Rear Admiral (Upper Half) (O8) TS: RADM
Rear Admiral (Lower Half) (O7) TS: RDML
Captain (O6) TS, but no explanation, alas!

Такое нашлось только в индийских ВМС:

...the rank of Colonel (Time Scale) has been granted the same pay band (PB-4), Grade Pay (Rs 8700) as well as status as enjoyed by a Colonel by Selection. Hence as far as comparison with civil posts is concerned, the rank of Col (TS) is equivalent to Colonel by Selection. The fixation tables should also bring good news for all Colonels (TS).

...Those serving in the rank of Commander (Time Scale) will
now be eligible for grant of substantive rank of Commander.
The existing rank of Commander (Selection) shall remain
applicable till the existing Commanders (Selection) are either
promoted to the rank of Captain (Selection) or Captain (Time
Scale) or are retired. No further promotions to Commander
(Selection) shall be made.

He was initially granted pension of Rs. 5,779 per month in the rank of Wing Commander (TS). Later on, on the representation of the petitioner his pension was finally fixed at Rs. 6,433 per month admissible to Sqn. leaders since the same was more than the pension payable to Wing Commander (time scale). http://indiankanoon.org/doc/332720/

Т.е. по-русски "по выслуге лет", наверное...

да не за что:)
Note from asker:
очень похоже, что Вы правы: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/india/in-navy-rank.htm Promotion upto the rank of Lieutenant Commander is based on a time scale. For further promotions, however, an officer has to undergo a selection process at each stage. The first step up the selection ladder is thus the rank of Commander http://www.dnaindia.com/mumbai/report_let-navy-decide-its-ranks-hc_1128663 Thus an officer being promoted to a rank on the basis of merit came under the ‘Select’ category, and those being promoted on completing a certain number of years of service came under the ‘Time Scale’ category.
