bridge, viaduct, elevated line, bridge approaches Explanation: Often, as in the ref. below, an estacade is a sort of bridge or viaduct, an elevated section of track on multiple closely-spaced supports, so it's more like a wall than a bridge, or similar to an estacade in the fluvial sense, a line of vertical poles serving as protection against floating objects. http://www.infociments.fr/route/voies-ferrees/estacade-pompo... I've also encountered the word where it refers to bridge approaches, again in contrast to the actual bridge (over a river, say) with long spans, whereas the estacade across low-lying or marshy ground has short spans and a large number of substructure units. Not sure this interpretation works in your context though. Could we have more? Is it near a bridge? In a depot? What does toiture refer to? |

Reference: http://littre.reverso.net/dictionnaire-francais/definition/e... Reference: http://www.granddictionnaire.com/BTML/FRA/r_Motclef/index800... |

overhead walkway Explanation: If it is necessary to get access to the roofs of trains, the overhead current must be switched off and the switch secured by a lock. Any person working on the roof will have a personal access key for the lock to ensure the current remains off until the work is complete and it is safe for it to be restored. The access stairs to the roof level walkway will also have a locked gate which can only be unlocked if current is off. A system like this is shown in the first photo below.
