liver health in obese patients
Hello. My question is: How do I translate the verb trakieren. The context is the following:
"Hier könne die transiente Elastografie den Grad der Verhärtung messen, ohne dass der Patient mit einer Hohlnadel traktiert werden müsste"
The text refers to a machine that can measure liver hardening without puncturing the patient. What's the correct medical term for poking someone with a hollow needle? Is that indeed what trakieren means here?
Thanks!

Selected
to maltreat as in ***traktieren***
In this case, a transient elastography can measure the degree of liver hardening, without ***maltreating*** the patient with a hollow puncturing needle

Find a nice collection of information on *traktieren* here: http://www.cosmiq.de/qa/show/1934247/Was-bedeutet-das-Wort-t...
While the very first origin of the word is just -> behandeln (from Latin tractare), it has actually a negative connotation plus is really 'verstaubt' in today's German. Who does really use *traktieren* in today's language? (ok, we should not talk about the quality of the source text, and it's also not our task to make the target text better than the source text .... )

Also, in addition to *hollow needle*, for the (still) standard liver biopsy, -> *core needle biopsy* is commonly used.
