Os cursos variam muito de país para país. Nos EUA há a necessidade de grau de PhD para se praticar a profissão de psicólogo e os termos, na verdade, não coincidem. O site abaixo em inglês explica bem os cursos de psicologia nos EUA.

Ao contrário do que, normalmente, se pensa, o psicólogo não é aquele que cursa Psicologia, mas sim aquele que opta pela Formação de Psicólogo, uma das três habilitações do curso. As outras são o bacharelado e a licenciatura, variantes para os que querem se dedicar, respectivamente, à pesquisa e ao magistério
