We tend to consider that it is the pension, rather than the person, that is deferred.
"If a pension is payable to a qualifying spouse or a qualifying civil partner ... If you die and have a deferred pension, the following benefits are payable: ... choice of beneficiaries by keeping your expression of wish form up to date. ..."

: Exactly! "différée" here refers to the "pension or jouissance" but we're missing a word in the French sentence - see my ref.

"L'époux qui a survécu, non remarié, s'il est divorcé d'une retraitée titulaire d'une pension en jouissance différée et décédée après le 1er janvier 1990, a droit à une pension de réversion en fonction de la date de divorce "
=> A spouse who has survived (and who is not remarried), if he divorced the beneficiary of a pension (à jouissance différée) who died after 1 January 1990, is entitled to a widow's pension based on the date of divorce"
