When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

'poisoning' would be used if you were seeking to imply the effects caused were severe/ life threatening

eg. ICD diagnostic criteria for Psychiatric disorders like Schizophrenia state that symptoms (eg hallucinations, delusions) must be present 'in the absence of drug intoxication or withdrawal'
Thank you. The poisons in this case are not only drugs and alcohol, but any substance, product, compound, etc. that can cause poisoning/intoxication symptoms. Is it still 'intoxication' then? |

drug toxicity
If suitable for your context I would use:
'vergiftigingsgeval'- toxicity
'intoxicatie met een product' - substance toxicity
poisoning

A toxin is a poison produced by an organism; it is esp. used in medicine in reference to disease-causing bacterial secretions: A toxin produces diphtheria. Poisoning past bij alle (passieve) gevallen van intoxicatie, terwijl intoxication meestal intentie impliceert, dan behalve bij een toxisch virus.
Men heeft het niet over een poisonous virus.

You could say that poisoning is "the event" and intoxication is the "physical state of being poisoned."
As Kate said (I am so free, at my own discretion and without her permission, to use her words in this context): "being drunk is being in a state of intoxication - alcohol poisoning can be life threatening"

Like I said, I am leaning towards poisoning, but the OED does state quite clearly of intoxication: "1.1 The action of poisoning; administration of poison; killing by poison; the state of being poisoned; an instance of this. Obs. exc. Med." |
But I'm less interested in dictionary definitions than in what the doctors and scientists use on the work floor :-). |
