Tie-bars (small rubber links or bridges) have been engineered into the lateral tread grooves to connect the outer shoulder blocks circumferentially. These tie-bars help stabilize the outer tread blocks, and in combination with the continuous circumferential rib in the center of the tread design, help reduce the possibility of irregular wear.

Note from asker:
Muchas gracias, Cranesfreak. Tendré que esperar la opinión de algún colega mexicano, porque en otros contextos ellos (igual que los chilenos) llaman "tirantes" a las "tie-bars", pero me parece que tu traducción es correctísima :) |

diseño de tirante y hombro
It is a specific design that incorporates tie-bars between the blocks of a tyre that prevent the blocks from moving in the axial direction.
This prevents excessive wear of the shoulder of the tyre.

Thank you very much, Francis. This was my take at first sight, and then I though I'd better ask :) Let's wait and see what Mexican colleagues have to say. |
