Spanish term or phrase: al espacio que las acoge
From an essay to introduce an art exhibit:

that lend a different meaning to the surrounding space
Explanation:
Similar to Manuel's suggestion, but "them" really sounds a bit awkward, and I think that one has to take into account the proceding words in order to a render a proper translation here.

Alternative suggestion: that imbue the surrounding space with a different meaning.

Suerte.

the space that surrounds them

Explanation:
Here, "acoge" is used rather figuratively to mean "rodea". It simply refers to the space around them, to whatever else is around them.

Of course you are free to choose a similarly figurative expression. That's up to you.

Asker: Thank you for your help with this. Can you please take a look at my other question so that I can understand how it fits in with this? My other question is the phrase that follows this one, "igualando la percepción concebida del contenedor pictórico". Thanks!

the space in which it is presented in

Explanation:
This is a tricky phrase to translate since it can be interpreted differently according to one's understanding and outlook on art itself.
Its talking about how the art modifies the very space in which it resides, or where it was placed. For example, a red flower can provide a contrast to the white walls in a museum. Therefore, i believe "the space in which it is presented in" is an appropriate translation

agree  Manuel Matias: Another good option indeed. Looks like we came at the same time, but you took the time to explain the general meaning of the paragraph. Nice.

to the space/area that houses/accommodates them

Explanation:
"Acoger" in the context that concerns us means "to accommodate", this word obviously being associated with the concept of "venue".
In another context however, its meaning can be to "receive", eg: "tuvo una gran acogida", meaning "he had a good reception" or "he was well received".
