Geological section probability

Abstract The probability of the concordance of a geological section with reality has been defined as the reverse of the number of all possible geological sections that can be created on the basis of all the geological data collected. The five kinds of geological sections ave distinguished: fully hypothetical, partly hypothetical, probable, generally credible and fully credible. The interdependence between the geological probability of sections and the number of fully worthwhile geological data is pointed out. This geological probability of the sections, as well as the model of the geological structure, increase at every stage of the engineering-geological studies and in the end it ought to be 1 in the engineering-geological elaboration for the technical project.

Probabilite et coupe geologique

Résumé On a défini la probabilité de concordance de la coupe géologique avec les conditions réelles ainsi que de toutes les coupes géologiques qui peuvent être construites d'après l'ensemble des données géologiques.
On a distingué 5 sortes de coupes géologiques: 1) hypothétique, 2) partiellement hypothétique, 3) probable, 4) généralement authentique, 5) totalement authentique.
On a démontré la dépendance entre la probabilité de concordance de la coupe géologique dans les conditions réelles et le nombre de données géologiques de valeur. La probabilité géologique des coupes ainsi que des modèles de structures géologiques augmente dans les étapes successives de la recherche géologique et géotechnique, pour arriver à 1 dans le projet technique.
