This is to indicate that the canal is a defect and I pointed out that atrioventricular canal was used.

AVSD
I'm not 100% sure about this but I think the current term in English is Atrioventricular Septal Defect. It is common in children with Down Syndrome and this site seems to suggest that CAV is the obsolete term and AVSD the current one.

To clarify - I don't think CAV is appropriate in English at all. AVC possibly, but it does seem that AVSD covers the same range of conditions and is the up-to-date term.
