This is in a manual for clarifying the software used for document classification for sharing between students and teachers. Unfortunately the screenshots are not supplied, but I imagine that "shelf" categorization is what is meant here. Unfortunately both words would be a shelf in this case. Any other way I should translate it?

As I remember the University library, we would say a given book was on the third shelf down in the second aisle on the right ... of course that leaves you with the problem of which SIDE of the aisle ... on the right (or left).

Since this is virtual, though "bookcase" would be inappropriate for a library (too small), maybe it would work here.

The GDT (http://www.granddictionnaire.com/btml/fra/r_motclef/index102... offers the same translation for both "rayon" and "étagère ": "shelf"
Well, then, why not try the Microsoft Terminology (download at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=250... and find that "rayon" is translated by "rack"?
