Russian term

чувство стиля и художественный вкус

Russian to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting
Это строка из резюме. В русском это стандартная формулировка (для редакторов, например). Есть ли какие-нибудь устоявшиеся эквиваленты в английском?? sense of style and artistic taste - уж очень как-то по-русски выглядят...

Jan 30, 2009 09:18: Dylan Edwards changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Alexander Ryshow, Mark Berelekhis, Dylan Edwards

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

a sense of style and an artistic approach

I'd go with 'approach' here, it being a resume and all.

Mikhail, the asker specified (для редакторов, например), not exclusive to editors. Moreover, even if it were, I'd still prefer artistic. 'Literary' is too restrictive and I don't even think that's what's meant here.

Thank you, Anna.
agree Mikhail Kropotov : Literary, not artistic. Because it's an editor's CV?

Thank you, Mikhail, but why literary? Particularly in an 'Art' category.
agree Alexandra Taggart : siblime, exquisite, fine - all of it is "artistic". I'm a bit late.

sense of style and virtuosity

Peer comment(s):

neutral Anna Bordanova (Semyonova) : virtuosity - не совсем "художественный вкус"

да, не совсем - "понимание тонкостей искусства, любовь к искусству"
neutral The Misha : No, it just doesn't sound right
