I'm sure it mostly means that the soil has not suffered damage from outside influences such as traffic, waste dumping, etc.
Perhaps the correct translation would be unspoiled vegetation'.

agree Andrée Goreux : that's how botanists describe the vegetation. Stress is usually lack of water, but could also be pollution or excessive heat.
