Spanish term

L Guayas

Spanish to English Law/Patents Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs Ecuador-Birth Certificate
On this Birth Certificate it states:

CERTIFICO: Que en el registro de nacimientos de la provincia de: L GUAYAS del Canton: SALINAS de la Parroquia...................

Later on it states the same thing: L GUAYAS.....

I am familiar with the Guayas Province in the Salinas Canton, but what is the L for here? Is anyone familiar with this at all???????

Littoral

I think it refers to Litoral Guayas, since Guayas is a Province located in the Coastline Sector of Ecuador (Ecuador has four geographical regions Costa, Sierra, Oriente, and Región Insular)
Example sentence:

Litoral Guayas

agree Cesar Serrano : Saludos Ricardo!

disagree Giovanna Bueno : L is just a gramatical adjustment: Canton del Guayas, Canton de Manabi

L Guayas or de L Guayas

The L is just to complete the word "del" (belonging to) Guayas. If you notice, before the L there is alway a "de"

Reference:

There's a list of the provinces of Ecuador here: http://www.worldcitydb.com/ecuador_country.html in which seven of the names begin with 'l ', including 'l Guayas' (which is low-lying, as mentioned by Ricardo) and 'l Chimbozazo' which is certainly not low lying since it includes Ecuador's highest volcano. It's perhaps significant, too, that they use lower-case 'l'.
