French to English Science Botany vanilla plant
From a book on vanilla. This particular part talks about pollination. The word nombril appears in italiques in the text. I have done quite a bit of searching, but have found no other references to the nombril of a vanilla plant!

La fleur s’ouvre pendant la nuit pour faner le jour même. Les marieuses fécondent les fleurs de vanilliers qui flétrissent ensuite. La fécondation n’est pas systématique. Une fleur donne une gousse, qui atteint en 6 semaines sa taille définitive. La fleur desséchée tombe et laisse à découvert le **nombril**. Féconder trop de fleurs fatigue la liane et entrave le développement de belles gousses. Il faut éliminer des fleurs, pincer l’extrémité des balais et rejeter les gousses chétives, de façon à ne garder que 12 gousses maximum.

Would be the correct English word. Nombril must be a reference to the "belly-button" indentation left by the calyx when it falls off.
