Discussion

Carolina Ceci Jul 20, 2008:
My mistake: where it says "englobe" it should say "include".
Carolina Ceci Jul 20, 2008:
Even when the person has not graduated and is asking for a transcript in order to be admitted elsewhere, the idea of admission still englobes the idea of having the former school equivalent credits accepted.
Carolina Ceci Jul 20, 2008:
Moreover, and, maybe as an afterthought, I think the idea of admitting a student into an institution already includes having accepted their previous credits when they ENTERED. A transcript is issued when they GRADUATE, by the corresponding office.
Carolina Ceci Jul 20, 2008:
I honestly think your choice is incorrect because the point of view sounds incorrect to me. Academic documents, including transcripts, are signed by the person in charge of the issuing office and "incorporaciones" is not related to equivalent subjects.
Nelida Kreer Jul 20, 2008:
If I may, Joseph, I believe that "articulation" is just that, "articulación" i.e., how to articulate, organize, structure, implement, the ways in which transfer credit will be accepted etc. etc. I don't think it fits the translation in context.
Joseph Tein (asker) Jul 19, 2008:
I think the word I'm looking for as a translation of 'incorporaciones' in an academic context may be 'articulation' : " Articulation agreements specify how transfer credit will be accepted from one institution to another and may be written in terms of specific courses, or even partnerships involving entire programs." (Arizona State University site). Is anybody familiar with this term?
Henry Hinds Jul 19, 2008:
Joseph Tein (asker) Jul 19, 2008:
Joseph Tein (asker) Jul 19, 2008:
Gracias bro - hermano Henry. Excelente idea. Here's what it says in the Reglamento Especial de Incorporaciones del Ministerio de Educacion in El Salvador: "Art. 2.- La incorporación de profesionales graduados en el extranjero implica el reconocimiento y validez académica de sus estudios."
Henry Hinds Jul 19, 2008:
You need to research this university's website, Bro, to really determine what it means. I gave you my idea.
Carolina Ceci Jul 19, 2008:
I don't see why the issue of transfer credits has come up here. The signature of the Head of the Admissions Office at the bottom of a transcript means that that is the office that is issuing or validating the document.
eski Jul 19, 2008:
Note to desertfox: I stand corrected,desertfox-As part of the title for the Director in the given text, "Credit Transfer" would indeed be more appropriate, thanks for the observation!
Gad Kohenov Jul 19, 2008:
Eski, you mean "credit transfer" I think:

Credit Transfer
Credit Transfer is a procedure by which academic studies or assessment results in one course, institution, educational sector or country are recognised for the purposes of course entry or advanced standing in another. Historically credit transfer has mainly been administered on an ad hoc basis by higher education institutions but it has now become an important area of national and transnational education policy, particularly in relation to mobility between countries and educational sectors.

I won't add an answer as I don't deserve points, Desertfox is right Registrar's office, Office of the the Registrar, or whatever. Forget incorporaciones, it just means new students in this context.

Registrar's office 'tout court' looks reasonable.
Peer comment(s):

2 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Shalom Gad. Your suggestion - 'equivalence' - comes closest to what I needed here. After reading and re-reading everyone's suggestions and the on-line material, I think I will use 'equivalencies' in my translation, and I will put 'establishing equivalencies' into the KudoZ glossary// Yossi."

Estudios incorporados de otras instituciones.

disagree Carolina Ceci : Students do not get "recognized" when entering an institution. They get registered or admitted.

Established in 1992 as a successor to the Council for National Academic Awards, OUVS's role is to provide a validation service for a wide range of awards for those organisations which it accredits. In practice that makes Validation Services a quality watchdog, the guarantor for students, institutions and the wider public that awards and awarding bodies have met the same rigorous academic and professional standards that the OU applies to its own qualifications.
