This sounds like one of those natty remote-controlled cranes the French have. Maybe the "portail" is the control box you sling around your neck.

Portail Thanks Chris - but I have the impression that here the portal is more in the sense of a gantry as the text talks about 600 kg carrying capacity, etc.

Possibly "des", not "les"? "stables et solides" are almost tautologous, and "télécommande" is remote control, so this may make sense in whatever other context you have! Portail is just portal in the IT sense.
