dicarboxylic acids Explanation: Just for the record, even though I realise this question has bene closed. Just like the alkanes all follow the same basic molecular structure as methane, the dicarboxylic acids all follow the same pattern as carboxylic acid, so are also referred to simply as carboxylic acids. The series of as I learned it is: Carbonic acid Oxalic acid Maleic acid Succinic acid Glutaric acid Adipic acid Pimelic acid Easily remembered using the mnemonic COMSGAP, although the IUPAC systematic names differ. Natually, the C falls away if you are looking only at the dicarboxylic acids, as carboxylic acid only has one carbon (see example below). Example sentence(s):
