श्रीरंगम मंदिर 108 मुख्य विष्णु मंदिरों में सर्वाधिक प्रसिद्ध है और यह भारत का सबसे विशाल मंदिर है। श्रीरंगम मंदिर तिरुच्चिरापल्ली से लगभग 2 कि.मी. उत्तर में स्थित है और यहां मुख्य मूर्ति भगवान रंगनाथ अर्थात भगवान विष्णु की है, जो आदि शेष सर्प पर विश्राम कर रहे हैं, इस सर्प के पांच शीश हैं और इसके फन चौड़े हैं। भगवान के चरणों में रावण का भाई, विभीषण विराजमान है।

यह मंदिर 600 एकड़ वाले द्वीप पर स्थित है और पूरा परिसर लगभग 2 ट्ठ वर्ग कि.मी. क्षेत्र में फैला है। मंदिर में प्रवेश करने से पहले अपनी आंखे थोड़ी उठाकर ऊपर देखें तो मंदिर के टावर पर आपको श्रीरंग विमान दिखाई देगा, जो स्वर्ण-जड़ित है। मंदिर के 21 गोपुरम (टावर) हैं और मंदिर के चारों ओर सात दीवारे (परिक्रमा) हैं।

मंदिर प्रात: 6.15 बजे से 1 बजे तक और सायं 3.15 बजे से 8.45 बजे तक खुला रखा जाता है।
