Japanese term or phrase: 試験片上の100mm間を毎分30回往復の速度で
耐摩擦性試験:
試験片を採取し、学振型摩擦試験機に取り付けて乾布と汗布の各条件の白綿布を摩擦子に被せ、摩擦子荷重を2Nで試験片上の100mm間を毎分30回往復の速度で200回摩擦し、試験片の外観表の判定基準を用いて等級で表示する。

I can't visualize what is happening with this phrase 試験片上の100mm間を毎分30回往復の速度で. It doesn't help because I am not sure what kind of part it is either. It's an automotive part that is being tested for various things, friction resistance being one of them.

Thanks.

English translation:apply friction to a 100 mm area on top of the test piece at a speed of 30 round-trips per minute
Explanation:
I've had to translate testing specifications like this before. The sentences get rather long due to the need to specify everything.

Anyways, the part of the sentence you are asking about is specifying the speed and location on the test piece to perform the friction test.

The location: in a 100 mm area on top of the test piece
The speed: 30 round-trips every minute (for a total of 200 trips)

This friction test probably uses some attachment that shuffles back-and-forth across the test area, and each back-and-forth motion is being referred to as a "round-trip". I'm not positive, but you using "round-trip" in English probably makes sense in this case.

Good luck!

agree  Kurt Hammond: round trip or cycle sounds good.

"at a rate of 30 reciprocating passes per minute, in a 100 mm diameter on the test piece surface"

Explanation:
"at a rate of 30 reciprocating passes per minute, every 100 mm along the test piece surface"

Just another stab at it. I think "rate" is more appropriate for 速度 in this case, as it does not necessarily refer to the speed of movement, but rather the frequency of the passes. Also "reciprocating" seems (to me) to more clearly express that the friction is going to be coming from passes going both ways.

Also, I am really not sure about the source term "100mm間" in this case.
