Translating a text about the health service and ambulance service in particular. Not sure if they mean ambulance technician here or paramedic. Any thoughts?

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
This is the term used to translate "ambulansearbeider" in the Norwegian Health Personnel Act (see first URL below).
"Emergency Medical Technician" has over a million Google hits and the Wikipedia article (see second URL) explains that an EMT assists a paramedic and is a lesser qualification.
