French term

les pièces en matériau alvéolaire à peau autoformée

French to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks deformation tests
Hello everyone,

This one is just not coming....
The part that I'm having difficulty with is "à peau autoformée"

the complete phrase is:
Elle ne concerne pas les matériaux alvéolaires souples de garnissage et les pièces en matériau alvéolaire à peau autoformée pour lesquelles s'applique la méthode d'essai

The document concerns compression set and constant deformation of cellular rubber and plastic materials for automobile parts

Any ideas

TIA

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "In parallel, I had also found that "peau autoformée" was often used in connection with dashboards and steering wheels and from there on the Bayer site http://www.pu.bayer.com/db/pu/pu_cms_internet.nsf/id/2DD38E9C30B07862C1256F6A0025B330 in the polyurethane section they call this skin foam. I'll go with self-skining foam. Thank you"

Self-forming

This would probably work in your context. Here is a reference, albeit from a slightly different context:

Development of a Self-Forming Ytterbium Silicate Skin on Silicon Nitride by Controlled Oxidation

or possibly 'self-formed'

cellular [material] parts with self-forming/self-formed skin

Case for metal or skin for human body. If case does not fit with plastics, I would say this is still the idea.

Skin is probably even better than case as Julianne suggests :-) he said an hour later
