Ну, наши целевики и их sponsored students, это, как говаривал майор Х на нашей военной кафедре в ин'язе, две большие разницы. Спонсорства-то никакого и нет. Означает сие изобретение наших администраторов то, что студент поедет по окончании в деревню Нижние Упупковичи, а ему за это дают т.н. "направление" перед вступительными экзаменами, и он (она), набрав баллов на порядок меньше остальных, все же поступает. С аспирантами, примерно та же картина. Т.е. их связывают контрактными обязательствами.

Как сказал Киплинг ... деталей не помню, но Восток и Запад ну просто такие разные! Тут же целая система - в одно-два слова не уместишь то, о чем "они" и не имеют представления и даже думать так не умеют. Вывод: надо им объяснить - сноска, в скобках, глоссарий ...
