Hello, I am translating and Operator's Manual for measuring body mass and it says:
It is also a consequence of isothermal behavior that the volume of air in close proximity to the subject’s surface is overestimated by 40%. This apparent negative volume is referred to as the surface area artifact.

Each subject’s surface area artifact is automatically computed and accounted for based on the Boyd formula specifically derived for infants (5):
