Spanish term

protección oficinal

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Real Estate homes for first-time buyers

It seems "oficinal" can sometimes be translated as "official"....does that mean these houses are "officially-protected". This might make sense because they are very close to the historic part of town. however, the rest of the text describes the houses' features and makes no further reference to any type of special protection. Or does this term rather have something to do with guaranteeing new homes which are built with first-time buyers in mind?
Please note, one of the parties involved in the project is a private construction company and the other is a government institution. This text is from Spain.

subsidized

OMG, this is so complicated. There are so many types of subsidized housing in Spain. If you don't have to be specific, this should do.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. The whole expression should be "subsidized housing".

agree moken : See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subsidized_housing What ought to be clear is that Spanish VPO programmes contemplate both rent and purchase. :O) :O)

Spanish term (edited): {viviendas de} protección oficinal

{right-to-buy Council housing} qualifying for leasehold enfranchisement

The oficinal may well not be an erratum, but specific to places like Castilla and Leon - see below.

The process in Spain looks like a Council Property scheme if the Government is involved.

Subsidised usually refers to the rent.

Leasehold enfranchisement. Intro image. Tenants right to buy. The tide of legislation in respect of tenants' rights to buy their freehold interests or to ...

If, indeed, oficinal is a typ for oficial, then: Rent Act-/Housing Act-protected or housing with security of tenure - which colleagues in Spain might be unfamiliar with.

Licensees have full security of tenure under the HA/*Housing Act* 85, unlike private sector licensees who fall outside the full protection of the Rent Act 1977 and the ...

Peer comment(s):

neutral moken : Your point regarding purchase is correct, but leasehold does not come into it; VPO housing is generally sold as freehold property with restrictions concerning re-sale. Unfort. I don't know the English term for it. :O) :O)

Can you then deal with the leasehold enfranchisement point, as subsidized rents don't seem to have the slightest bearing on the question?
