loop

English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering valves
installing a clapper on a check valve

"Start the clapper shaft into the valve body, and install the spring onto the clapper shaft. Make sure the loop is toward the clapper, as shown above."

...what is the loop in this case? not a circuit I suppose
If you want I can send you a picture of this procedure

Thanks Kenneth!

Sorry, the extra words above come from my carelessness and Kudoz's stingy entry box.
Ken Cox May 17, 2006:
It could be ring-shaped, but also oval, oblong, etc. The key aspect is that it forms a closed loop (it's hard to avoid that word). The Oxford dico says 'a shape produced by a curve that bends round and crosses itself, ...'. produced by a curve

what it means

There is presumably a loop formed in the end of the spring or attached to the end of the spring -- not a circuit, just a closed (loop-shaped) thingy of some sort.
Peer comment(s):

agree Lingo Pros : a curving or doubling of a line so as to form a closed or partly open curve within itself through which another line can be passed or into which a hook may be hooked
