I was thinking perhaps "displacement start time"....

... as a general translation, but as this is a piston, 'time at start of stroke' would be OK.

'Weg' is usually 'travel along a defined path' or 'distance travelled' in a mechanical context.
'Displacement', besides being a more general term (and one lacking the suggestion of motion along a path) is inadvisable in this context because it normally refers to the volume swept by the piston (cylinder displacement).

agree David Willett : "Displacement" is certainly not right for the reasons you give. I'd prefer the more compact "travel/stroke/traverse start time" though.
