collateral nantissement Explanation: It's my understanding that "collateral" means some sort of security in return for something else. As per the referenced link: nantissement = Contrat par lequel un débiteur remet au créancier, en vue de garantir le paiement de sa dette, un bien meuble ou immeuble But... I have never used the word nantissement, and it's possible that I've misunderstood the use of the word "collateral" in this particular example... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 hrs 54 mins (2005-11-19 22:33:01 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Also, I found that in French the word "collatéral" doesn't mean what I expected it to mean in English.
