English term
refined grains
English to German
Marketing
Food & Drink

Can't give you the German, but this link explains it.

weiterverarbeitetes Getreide
Raffiniertes Getreide sounds like a bad translation from English, even if it is now supposedly used. Any grains that have been ground in any way lose a large part of their nutritional value very quickly, even coarsely ground grains such as couscous.
The text explicitly says Getreide, although their are usually talking about wheat, so translations such as Weißmehl cannot be used.

Sugar is raffiniert, Weizenmehl is raffiniert, but I have not heard of Getreide as being raffiniert, which is usually a denaturation process of a raw product such as flour or raw sugar. Of course the term is common, just not in this combination.

Heike Fetting
: In fact, the term "raffiniert" is very common. "Weiterverarbeitet" does not convey the right meaning because "Raffination" is a special process used to "purify" grain, sugar ("raffinierter Zucker"), vegetable oil ("raffiniertes Öl") etc.

raffiniertes Getreide

Hello Nancy, grain is a raw product and "raffiniertes Getreide" does indeed exist and is a common term. Just have a look at the Internet or ask the "Bundesforschungsanstalt
für Ernährung und Lebensmittel" (www.bfa-ernaehrung.de) which is an authority in this field. A good address is also the "Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Ernährung" (www.sge-sn.ch)

Samira Goth
