"técnico superior" is a (career) position one may hold at any civil service institution, including universities. This person would normally hold at least a BA qualification. I would really appreciate any help with this term for a university context case. (For a PT translation).

: Agree with "senior", but I'm not happy with "technician" unless the context is a lab or something to do with electronics or the like. As well as a translator I'm a "Técnica de Turismo" but that doesn't make me a "Tourism Technician".

Concordo em absoluto consigo. É um termo muito usado em português mas, não significa necessariamente que é técnico na verdadeira acepção da palavra. No geral, até o são, esses técnicos superiores.

: It just doesn't work in this context. Forgive me, Antonio :) [added] Yes, of course, "relações públicas" is public relations. Whatever functions he/she exercises, that's the job title used.

I suddenly remembered that when I was at university in Ireland, staff of the university working in the various different non-academic departments were called "officers".

: Como já disse anteriormente, é um termo difícil de traduzir. Eu próprio já fui um "técnico superior" de uma empresa pública e nunca fui um "public relations officer".

You're totally missing the point. The job description specifically refers to public relations. Haven't you read Susy's note? In your case, public relations officer wouldn't have been correct, but in this specific context it is!

Fiona Gonçalves
: Yes, definitely. Relações Públicas is Public Relations and "public relations officer" is a recognised career. Maybe "technician" works in other ENs, but not for for me with UK-EN, where it implies working with technical equipment and/or in a lab.
