XX Festverbindungen sind permanent bereitgestellte digitale Übertragungswege mit digitalen Schnittstellen. Die Übergabe des Übertragungsweges am B-Ende (Hauptvermittlungsstelle (HVT) der Deutschen Telekom AG (DTAG)) erfolgt in der XX Muffe des von der DTAG zugewiesenen Übergabeortes optisch per Spleiss an das vom Kunden bereitgestellte Weiterführungskabel. XX übergibt die Bandbreite am eigenem Equipment im Kolokationsbereich des Kunden am bereitgestellten Zuführungskabel oder als VC12 innerhalb einer gegebenenfalls bereits bestehenden STM1-Zufuehrung.

Die Übersetzerin hat hier "point-to-point connection" gewählt, Siemens sagt "permanent circuit connection". Gibt es da einen Unterschied?

Explanation:
"Permanent connection" is the term suggested by Deutsche Telekom in a glossary it sent me a number of years ago to help with a project. Siemens seems to favour "nailed-up connection" as it provides this translation in both its ISDN glossary and its "Wörterbuch der Daten- und Kommunikationstechnik" (though it sounds a bit dated to me!). The latter source also suggests "permanent circuit connection".

Sorry Daniela - in my eagerness to answer your question I managed to miss your last sentence!
I still think that Steven's suggestion of dedicated line, or permanent connection, is preferable to "point-to-point connection".
