By about 2007 I managed to secure a cushy position where I stopped seeking new clients. Instead, I was able to choose clients that more or less matched my idea of a "perfect" translation agency. By raising my rate from time to time (never reducing it), I tried to regulate the number of clients and jobs I could cope with.

After I joined a leading international law firm's Moscow office in mid-2008 as an in-house legal translator (the reason was to have better chances of obtaining a mortgage loan on better terms and conditions) I had to start dropping my clients one by one. Eventually, only the best of them (from my own perspective) survived

By now, 5 years later, a rather hefty 10-year mortgage loan has bean dealt with (took me 3 years to the date to repay it), I am leaving the corporate environment to resume my freelance career, which means it is time to start winning over clients again.

Moreover, I expect to become an owner of a "virtual translation agency" soon. Resultantly, a thorough and time-consuming manhunt for highly skilled and reliable linguistic talent is going to become one of the top priorities on my agenda... ▲ Collapse
