Moroccan citizens could face five years in jail, a loss of their citizenship and 100,000 Euros in fines if the legislation passes. Human rights groups have attacked the proposal as ‘inhumane and anti-democratic..
The legislation will soon be presented and voted on in parliament, but many are hoping that if the law does indeed pass that it will be vetoed for its anti-constitutional premise and its detrimental effects for Morocco’s international standing.
Moroccan writer and activist Nicole Elgrissy believes the law is designed to deflect from important social issues afflicting Moroccan society.

و قد يواجه المواطنون المغاربة عقوبة سجنية تصل الى خمس سنوات، أو فقدان جنسيتهم أو دفع غرامة مالية قدرها 100000 أورو، إذا تمت المصادقة على مشروع القانون. وقد انتقدت جماعات حقوقية المقترح و و صفته "باللاإنساني ومناهض للديمقراطية".
سيتم تقديم مشروع القانون قريبا للتصويت عليه في البرلمان، ولكن الكثيرين يأملون في رفضه لمعارضته الدستور ولآثاره السلبية على مكانة المغرب على الصعيد الدولي
وترى الكاتبة والناشطة المغربية نيكول الغريسي أن مشروع القانون هذا هو فقط لصرف الأنظار عن القضايا الاجتماعية الهامة التي يعاني منها المجتمع المغربي.
