English to Italian: The effects of frequent nurse visits on patient , s compliance with long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT). A 14-month follow-up General field: Medical Detailed field: Medical (general)
Source text - English Results: The study group involved 30 subjects +. The mean age was 67 ± 9 years, mean FEV1 was 46 ± 18% predicted, RV/TLC was 64 ± 16% and PaO2 was 50 ± 6 mm Hg.
The mean duration of the daily oxygen therapy for the entire study group was 12.5 ± 4.6 hours. Eleven (37%) patients complied with the treatment during the follow-up period with the mean duration of daily oxygen therapy 17.4 ± 2.6 hours. The mean oxygen therapy use in the non-compliant group of patients averaged 9.6 ± 2.7 hours.
We found that highest percentage of patients (48%) used oxygen for an appropriate period of time in the # first month of the treatment. The second month the number decreased to about 30% and remained at this level until the end of the follow-up period.
English to Italian: Working memory deficits in boys with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD): An examination of orthographic coding and episodic buffer processes General field: Medical Detailed field: Psychology
Source text - English Both experimental and applied studies of working memory deficits in children with ADHD have been predominantly based on Baddeley’s (2007) multicomponent model, which suggests that working memory involves the temporary storage and active manipulation of internal information and is comprised of a central executive and three subsystems—the phonological buffer/loop, the visuospatial sketchpad, and the episodic buffer. The phonological buffer/loop allows for the temporary storage (buffer) and maintenance (rehearsal via the articulatory loop) of phonological information, while the visuospatial sketchpad provides these storage and rehearsal processes for nonverbal visual and spatial information. The domain-general central executive functions as an attentional controller that serves to allocate resources to the subsidiary systems (i.e., the phonological buffer/loop and visuospatial sketchpad), to coordinate cognitive processes when they occur simultaneously, and to focus, switch, and divide attention. Collectively, the central executive reflects the working component of working memory, whereas the visuospatial sketchpad and phonological buffer/loop are analogous to what is frequently described as short-term memory (STM; Baddeley, 2007). Finally, the relatively new episodic buffer component of working memory provides temporary storage of bound information from multiple modalities (e.g., visual and phonological) and provides a link between working
memory and long-term memory, a process attributed to the central executive in Baddeley’s earlier model (Baddeley, 1996).
