Spanish term

oficio de estudiante responsable

Spanish to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy Skills, academic engagement
SPAIN. This appears in an article on academic engagement. Obviously I know what a responsible student is, but it's the "oficio" part that has me baffled. Apparently it's an established concept, for example in the link below, but I can't seem to find an established English equivalent.

The actual sentence (in which the term appears in quotes) I have to translate is this:

"El engagement académico también se relaciona con el aprendizaje activo, puesto que los estudiantes implicados están mejor predispuestos a autorregular su aprendizaje y son más capaces de integrar nuevas estrategias durante su proceso formativo. En el ámbito educativo, esta implicación y la identificación con el “oficio de estudiante responsable” se debe traducir en el logro de buenos resultados académicos"

@Ormiston No, but that could work as well, cheers. We ended up using "profile", which seemed less "WTF" than any of the usual translations of "oficio".

Did you consider The word 'role' for this ?

Selected

the work of a responsible student

"oficio" means work, among other things, and as being a student is neither a business or a job, "work" might be an option.

I learnt a long time ago that literal translations are not always good, indeed in most cases they aren't. I'm pleased to see that you agree with my option.
Enjoy your day Neil.
Note from asker:
My misgivings were the same. I thought “responsible student profile” sounded better, and the client agrees, so I going with that. Thanks for the help stay safe :-)

labour of the responsible student

Es una metáfora
No es un uso normal
Puede decirse office en inglés también me parece
Labour o work como ya han dicho son adaptaciones
Note from asker:
Gracias. Ya hemos decidido que "profile" (perfil) funciona mejor en inglés que las traducciones de "oficio" de costumbre.
