Well, I had to come up with names for these other islands, and as luck would have it, the name I came up with for the island corresponding roughly to Asia was "Hendai." I was under the impression that this was a word that did not mean anything in any language and had been made up by myself out of thin air. Alas, I was wrong.

While perusing the logs for this part of the site, I noticed that most people who find this page through search engines found it by searching under "hendai." Since I thought this was a word I had made up myself, I was a little surprised. When I searched under this term myself, the first link I followed led to a site that flashed a quick succession of pornographic images onto my monitor, so aggressively that I immediately scrambled for the "back" button in blind panic. Unwilling to risk this experience again, I posed this question to friends in the electronic community whose stomachs are a little stronger. I learned that in fact "hendai" is an alternate spelling of "hentai," a term used to refer to a category of pornography developed by a resourceful group of Japanese artists as a way of circumventing Japanese censorship laws regarding the depiction of human genitalia. It involves tentacles, and it's called "hentai" because the word "hentai" is apparently Japanese slang for "pervert."
