German term (edited):
Etage
Selected
(AT) housekeeping department
The asker might be in Austria - where the Etage of a hotel (in Tirol/Vienna) might not necessarily mean a floor c-f Stock/werk and Stiege meaning a sepaarte staircased building.

Comment: "thanks Adrian, of course "floor" is also correct since it is the word asked about. Sorry Phil I should have looked in glossary first."

"Etage" is another word that we use in German to say "Geschoss" or "Stockwerk". Since it comes from the French, it sounds more elegant in the sentence you have provided. "Geschoss" also has other meanings in German, such as "bullet" or when referring to "one heck of a woman". "Stockwerk" is very objective (to my mind) and won't necessarily lure you to the hotel as nicely as "Etage" would.

I believe this means "room service". Compare with the link below. Housekeeping is just as good I think.

: you've just repeated my answer - adding the department that wasn't before - and without posting an agree.//Yes. You're quite right. I did - 'inadvertently' like Bob Dylan and Marvin Gaye copycats who shall remain nameless - lift the department in brackets

But you've posted someone else's answer, and I don't think you should get points for doing so.

Discussion
Prepositionally, Geschicke: the 'goings-on' *on* our floor looks very localised vs. in our dept., even if the better Austrian/Viennese hotels do use Etage to mean a floor, including special 'Hundezimmer' (Hotel Sacher).
(Als Etagen-Hausdame ist man, wie der Name schon sagt, für die Sauberkeit und die reibungslosen Abläufe auf "seiner Etage" verantwortlich. Diese Position ist, je nach Hotel mit der des Assistant Housekeeper identisch. Eine weitere Bezeichnung im englischen ist ggf. "floor supervisor").
