German term

(Project) Banding

German to English Bus/Financial Human Resources employment
I am really stuck - Brett vor dem Kopf? no references to be found...from a Q & A:

Wie kann sichergestellt werden, dass notwendige oder sonst verfallene Ferien vom Projekt nicht mit negativem Impact im Banding "belohnt" werden - kann negatives Project Banding relativiert werden?
Change log

Dec 7, 2013 08:28: Steffen Walter changed "Field" from "Social Sciences" to "Bus/Financial" , "Field (specific)" from "Business/Commerce (general)" to "Human Resources"

Thanks! ...and I do understand the word now - just hadn't heard it used in that sense before as far as I could recall, but we keep learning!
philgoddard Dec 7, 2013:
Banding is used in a salary context - it's the maximum and minimum salary you're entitled to for your job. You haven't given much context, so we don't know what "project" refers to, but it doesn't appear to have anything to do with schools. I wouldn't bother speculating about its meaning, given that it's English anyway. Your customer will understand, even if you don't.
Veronika McLaren (asker) Dec 7, 2013:
Perhaps it is the British definition for "banding" schoolchildren, i.e. grouping them according to their ability to ensure a balanced intake at different levels of ability...?
Veronika McLaren (asker) Dec 7, 2013:
The next sentence mentions the effect of holidays on an employee's "rating" - just what does the banding then refer to?
Veronika McLaren (asker) Dec 7, 2013:
There is indeed a lot of Denglish mixed in and the text is often unclear. It is a matter of new regulations regarding the taking or accumulating/banking of holidays.
philgoddard Dec 7, 2013:
It's English, not German! There's no way of knowing what it means without more context, which you may not have. But I don't think this is your problem.
