This is for a documentary about the fortified castle that is being built from scratch in Burgundy using medieval techniques and materials. We are shown them roasting some iron ore and the comment when it comes out of the furnace is, "On a passé une 30aine de kg de minerai de fer et la en sortie en matière brute, en **loupe d’acier**, on a peut-être une dizaine de kilos de matière."
I've found "bear" for "loupe" under metallurgy in the GDT, but can't find other references to back this up. Would be very grateful for help on this one, because time is short and I don't have enough knowledge of the subject to search very intelligently!

"Iron osmond" if you're sure that the Osmund Process, which apparently dates back to the 12th c., is what they're describing, or, to be safe, "iron ball".
