Delete deleting the CMV promoter

English to German Medical Biology (-tech,-chem,micro-) Onkologie Biochemie
The adaptor plasmid, containing sequences of the Ad5, CMV promoter, MCS, and SV40 polyA was modified to delete deleting the CMV promoter, and the PPE-1 promoter and Fas-c fragment were inserted by restriction digestion.

Das geht mir zu sehr ins detail und ich verstehe das nicht richtig. Entfernen der Deletion?

Doppelt gemoppelt Wirkt eher so, als ob der Autor beim Umschreiben des Satzes das Gerund aus Versehen drin gelassen hat. Also "(...) was modified to delete the CMV promoter (...)".
