German term

auf sich alleine gestellt sind

German to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general) company presentation
Damit Präsentatoren auf sich alleine gestellt sind, werden die Erfolgsgeschichte moderiert.

This is from the notes to a powerpoint presentation. The presenter is going to hand over to some employees who are going to recount their success stories.

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Dec 14, 2004:
I'm afraid it's just on its own as a note, but yes, contributors is probably the meaning here
Francis Lee (X) Dec 14, 2004:
"Prsentatoren" here meaning contributors, right? The sentences before and after could be helpful.

(present) individually

I think this just means that the guys are going to present ('moderieren') their own stories so that the audience can see, and presumably applaud, them individually

ie talk the audience through the stories (\'moderieren\') rather than just use the visual presentation

\'the presenters will talk you/the audience through their succes stories so that you/the audeince can hear from them individually\'

\'in person\' probably better than \'individually\'

are left to their own devices

is the meaning, but I'm not sure I understand what they're trying to say in the German. Is there a 'nicht' missing?

Another error is that it should be either:
wird die Geschichte, or
werden die Geschichten
Peer comment(s):

agree Tinkara Bizjak : My first thought was the same - that the word "nicht" is missing after the word "Präsentatoren".

agree Kieran McCann : this would make a lot more sense than my effort if there is a 'nicht' missing

in order that the presentators ***are working independently***

Schwierig bei dem etwas verkrachten Satzbau den Du da hast.
good luck!

are on their own

auf sich allein gestellt sein = to be on one's own

by themselves

or 'without outside help'

but 'on their own' or 'independent', as suggested, would also work. 'To their own devices' stresses the ingenuity side of it, which may or may not fit here.

are NOT thrown in at the deep end

I agree with those who think "nicht" has been missed out by mistake. Obviously my version only works if this is right.
