This might be some sort of learning aid which helps to teach something to somebody.
E.g. it helps piglets to learn how to eat or drink from machines or something else

It also might be a worker without vocational training i.e. a non-skilled worker

The answer which one will be correct in your specific case can only be found in the context which you unfortunately forgot to give us.

More context please Please give us at the very least a complete sentence or paragraph in which the term occurs - otherwise we have no idea what to make of "tangentially related to ..."

agree John Speese : I think this is on the right track. For example, people who raise wild ducks and hatch the eggs in an incubator often put ducklings of a domestic breed in with the wild ducklings to "teach" them to eat (d.h. als Anlernhilfe).
